KRISTIN RANKIN (THEY/THEM)

Kristin Rankin’s Story

Kristin Rankin is a ENBY/GNC hairstylist in from Toronto, Canada living in NYC and has been cutting for over 15 years. They opened their first salon in 2008 with a rainbow sticker in the window welcoming all folks. Kristin is a partner in the Fox and Jane Group salons. 

In 2016 Kristin started what is now a global movement in the pro beauty industry called @thedresscodeproject. The Dresscode Pproject helps train and educate hairstylists and hair salon owners to create gender affirming hair spaces so folks who identify within the queer communities can get haircuts that make them look the way they feel. To date there are over 550 gender affirming DCP salons around the world.

Kristin has been featured in the Today Show, Teen Vogue, Vogue Italia, WWD, Vanity Fair, Dazed, Chatelaine and Dapper Q. 

After creating the Dresscode Project, Kristin started what they call the DCP’s side hustle, the Gender Free Haircut Club (GFHC). GFHC is an event where hairstylists and hair salons provide their talent & space to give gender affirming haircuts to marginalized queer folks at no cost. Kristin alone has provided over 1000 queer clients with gender affirming haircuts and responsible for creating a global movement that is changing the way the hair world does hair.
